Wow. Just wow.
I am actually still in shock.
It really is a testament to how amazing Nathan Fillion’s fans are when after I write one post about him my blog traffic reaches an all-time high!
I would just like to take a moment to say a massive thank you to everybody who shared, retweeted and liked my post! It’s truly insane to think that so many people have read what I had to say and seen all of my spelling errors! 😛 You are all amazing and completely made my week! I don’t think I can thank you enough XD
Alrighty, on to today’s blog post!
Now, second to the amazing panels of course, one of my favourite things about conventions is the amazing merchandise! Conventions really are the best place to get some of the most amazing, one-of-a-kind geeky goodies. I actually got so amped up about what I bought at Oz Comic Con earlier this year that I ended up writing my first proper blog post about it! So, keeping in line with my tradition of spending disproportionate amounts of money and writing about it, I have decided to share with you guys everything that I bought at Supanova!
Let’s get this show on the road!
Batgirl Volume One Hardcover – Cosmic Comics
This was the first thing that I bought at the convention. The cover art immediately caught my eye (I am an absolute sucker for cute, cartoony drawings!), and the whole concept of Batgirl taking selfies was something that I just found really funny. I’m pretty new to comics (I started reading them in April this year and still have no idea what I’m doing!), so I actually haven’t bought many DC titles. However, after reading this I am definitely planning on getting more! The artwork is just so awesome and the story is even better (Cameron Stewart, Babs Tarr and Brenden Fletcher are all insanely talented)! Basically, it’s about Barbara Gordon (aka Batgirl) and the mayhem that she encounters after moving to the ultra-hip neighbourhood of Burnside. Barbara (or ‘Babs’, as her friends call her) is just an awesome, relatable lead and the supporting cast was excellent (Frankie and Dinah were my two favourites). It’s safe to say that I’m definitely looking forward to reading more from this awesome series!
Totoro Dress – Curious Empire
I’ll just say this right now: I love Hayao Miyazaki. I have been a massive fan of his work for what feels like forever. I have a giant, block-mounted movie poster Howl’s Moving Castle in my room and once carried around all of my personal belongings in a Totoro shoulder-bag. I am absolutely nuts about Studio Ghibli, so when I saw this dress I totally freaked out! They didn’t have any in my size, so I asked the lady behind the counter and she very kindly found me one in a size up from my usual fit. Even though it wasn’t my size, I knew I had to have it and bought it immediately! Surprisingly, it actually fits pretty well and it’s reversible too, which is awesome (It’s like having TWO dresses!). I’ve already gotten compliments on it, so it’s definitely a winner!
Sherlock Skirt – Curious Empire
I have no shame in saying that I was the biggest Sherlock Fangirl! One of my friends got me into it after the end of the second season and, like most girls exposed to Benedict Cumberbatch in their mid-teens, I became completely obsessed. OK, maybe not COMPLETELY obsessed. I was just so impressed with how amazingly well the show was put together; everything from the cinematography to the acting to the script was just perfect. I was completely smitten, however I will admit that sometime during the wait for the third season my interest in the series began to die down. School got busy, I became more interested in music and soon enough, when season three came out, I wasn’t as into it as I would have liked! So, seeing this skirt reminded me of the good old days; the times when I would have, upon receiving such a skirt, spontaneously combusted from excitement. It brought back memories of an amazing show that I really need to go back and rewatch. So, after making the purchase I set myself a challenge: I need to ‘earn’ the right to wear this skirt by going back and watching all of the past seasons of Sherlock! I honestly can’t wait to revisit the series; Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman just had the best rapport and the writers always found the most clever ways to reference the source material. So, to summarise; this skirt is great!
Wonder Woman Swimsuit – Cherri Lane
I love everything that Wonder Woman stands for. She is a badass Amazonian warrior princess, and I feel like every woman has her strength and power within her somewhere. She is one of my role models, even though I haven’t read any of her comics (I’ll have to change that, though)! Basically, if I see something with Wonder Woman on it I’m going to buy it! So it’s really only natural that I bought this. I am going to wear this swimsuit underneath my clothes at all times so that I’ll be ready whenever I’m needed to fight crime. Alternatively, I’ll probably wear it as a really awesome bodysuit with a pair of denim shorts! Now, much like the Cheshire Cat swimsuit I bought from Cherri Lane at Oz Comic Con, this swimsuit seems to be a budget version of a Blackmilk piece. Therefore, it’s to be expected that the fabric is going to be a little flimsy. So, if I find that I’m wearing this heaps, I’ll probably scoot on over to Blackmilk and invest in the ‘real’ version. However, for now, this will do nicely 🙂
Alice Skirt – Cherri Lane
The fabric on this skirt is just beautiful. I think I’ve seen leggings made out of a similar fabric on Blackmilk, but I don’t know if they make them anymore. Anyways, that’s all beside the point! The point is that this skirt makes me very happy. Alice in Wonderland would have to be one of my favourite Disney movies of all time. I haven’t read the book, but I still love the illustrations that this skirt’s design took inspiration from. I’m probably going to wear this with a cute blouse and some knee high socks. (Alice would approve!)
Cat Dress – Cherri Lane
THIS IS MY NEW FAVOURITE THING!!!!! I am basically going to wear this every day for the rest of my life. It is beautiful. I just can’t even. There are no more words. Just YESSS!!!
I’ll let you in on a secret: I didn’t actually get this in my initial trip to the Cherri Lane stall. After seeing this awesome tank, I thought that I’d already gotten too much to justify another purchase. However, after I left it was on my mind so much that I knew I had to go back and get it! So yes, I ended up being *that* person who ends up going right back into a shop on the same day to get more stuff. No shame. Anyways, I’m super glad that I did go back because this was just too hilarious not to get! There was a whole heap of them, so it was super hard to choose! Initially I was eyeing up the one of Aladdin (he was arrested for shoplifting, FYI), but Ariel was just too cute (You know how much of a sucker I am for cute things!). This will look awesome with a girly skirt and some boots; definitely one of my new favourite clothing items!
Baymax, Spirited Away and Hello Kitty Bows – Mogo and Co
Speaking of how much of a sucker I am for cute things, I spent a LOT of money at Mogo and Co. Bows are one of my favourite things to accessorise with, and when you put characters from my favourite movies on them I will basically be handing you my cash in droves. So it was only fitting that, after shopping there on Saturday, I ended up going back AGAIN on Sunday to get even more bows! I decided to get two of each design because I’m super into wearing my hair in pigtails at the moment and thought they could use a little pizzazz. Needless to say, they look absolutely adorable and I’m probably going to end up spending even more money on bows to add to my collection!
Lucky Dip – Peppermint Carousel
These guys also had amazing bows, but sadly enough I didn’t have enough cash on me to buy any! (Sad face) However, what I could buy was a cute little lucky dip. This was really good value for money! (It was only $5) I absolutely love the cute little dessert rings, and the bow earrings are adorable. I’ve been browsing their website and everything is just too sweet. When I go to my next convention I will be armed with cash so I can get some more of their amazing jewellery!
Totoro Bow – Button Fox
Continuing on my bow-buying-binge, I noticed the Button Fox stand and was basically drawn to it like a magnet. When I got there I was served by a very cute guy with bright red hair who immediately recognised my Spider Gwen cosplay! This made me both incredibly tongue-tied and extremely awkward! (as I always am around attractive guys. *Sigh*) However, before I fled the scene completely red-faced I decided that I’d have to pick up one of their amazing button-bows, and this was my choice. The pin in the middle is actually detachable, so you can wear the bow two different ways! Also, the bow is extremely well made; the material is gorgeous and actually references almost all of the Studio Ghibli movies (my favourites are Calcifer and Turnip Head from Howl’s moving Castle!), and the ruffles look almost perfect. I probably should have stayed and gotten more, but I was too darn bashful! Oh well, maybe next time 😛
Star-Lord Earrings – Tragic Kingdom
Give me a second while I set the mood.
These earrings simply remind me to be awesome. I ended up getting the last pair of these too, which is even more awesome! The lady selling them to me actually noticed that the original earring hooks were defective, so she got out a pair of pliers on the spot and put on some new ones for me, which was super nice! I am just so stoked that I have these. They had also had some pretty neat themed charm bracelets and necklaces with everything from My Little Pony to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles being covered. I am definitely keeping my eye out for these guys at the next convention I go to, because their stuff is just too good. (I need more money!)
Spiderman Earrings – Tall Rabbit
Just your friendly neighbourhood Spiderman! You all know how much I love Peter Parker. Spiderman is the first comic series that I started reading, and so far I have loved every issue. I knew that I couldn’t leave the convention without getting a little something that paid homage to the master webslinger himself, and these fit the bill just perfectly. Cute, subtle and awesome; I’m definitely going back to wearing earrings more regularly now that I’ve got these!
Nathan Fillion One In A Million Shirt – Manatees
Of course I had to get a shirt dedicated to the man we all went to see! This was the last thing that I bought on the last day; it’s an absolute wonder that my card was even accepted! However, when it was I was overjoyed. The shirts were actually being pressed on the spot, so they gave me a little ticket and in 10 minutes it was done! It’s the perfect memento for an amazing weekend. Plus, it’s the perfect reminder to everyone you meet that Nathan Fillion really is one in a million! (Sorry, I couldn’t find a link to their shop! However, you can buy a bunch of cool Fillion-inspired shirts here)
If you made it to the end of this post, you are an awesome human being! Thank you so much for reading my silly ramblings.
But wait! Before I go I have to ask: have you been to a convention recently? What is the most awesome thing you got? Please share in the comments below XD
OK, until next time!
Lots of love
